S-42 Clipper - transport flying boat, designed by designer Igor Sikorsky. Terms of Reference of the company at the Pan American transatlantic flying boat long range, received August 15, 1931, provided for the ability of an aircraft carrying a crew of four and 12 passengers to a distance of 4023 kilometers (2500 miles) with a cruising speed of 233 kilometers per hour (145 miles / hour) . November 30, 1932 the airline signed a contract with Martin to design aircraft M-130 and with the firm on a plane Sikorski S-42. S-42 had a traditional building flying boat and was equipped with four engines, Pratt & Whitney Hornet S5D1G engine with 700 hp. The first aircraft was delivered in August 1934 at the base of the company Pan American, and the first shuttle flight took place on 16 August.
