Windshield heat is normally on for flight even in warm weather. It makes the windows pliable to protect from bird strikes. Green lights indicate normal operation, and amber lights indicate an overheat condition.</b></font></p> <p><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>You may not get a green light on particularly hot days. In that case, move the center test switch to Power On Test to force the controller to run at full power. </b></font></p> <p><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>Performing the Overheat Test will cause the green lights to immediately extinguish and the amber overheat lights to come on. Each window switch will then have to be reset.</b></font></p> <p> </p> <p><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>ENGINE AND WING ANTI-ICE</b></font></p> <p><img border="0" src="images/anti_ice.jpg" width="150" height="205"></p> <p><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>Engine anti-ice should be run when icing conditions are encountered or anticipated. You are in icing conditions when the temperature is below 10 deg C and visible moisture, such as clouds and fog, is present.</b></font></p> <p><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>If icing conditions are encountered on the ground, turn on the switches immediately after starting engines. If takeoff is delayed over 10 minutes, momentarily run up engines to at least 75% N2. Repeat every 10 minutes if necessary. Engine ignition should be on while the anti-ice switches are on.</b></font></p> <p><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>If anti-icing is needed after takeoff, try to wait until you're at least 1000 ft AGL before engaging. If possible, turn on one switch at a time and make sure the engines stabilize before moving to the next switch. </b></font></p> <p><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>Each engine has left, right, and cowl valves which take hot bleed air from the high pressure section of the engine and run it into the cowl and the intake. The five position rotary switch controls the green agreement lights for the engines and also the wing. For example, if the knob is in the "L" position, then the three green engine lights will show valve position agreement of the left valves on each engine. Putting the switch in "Cowl" position checks the cowl valves on each engine. Same with the "R" position. Once you've gone through those settings, you have confirmed the positions of all the engine valves. Again, the green lights do not mean "on". They look at the valve position and say, "yes, you are in the right place." </b></font></p> <p><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>When anti-ice is needed, first turn on the ignition switch just above the starters. On the anti-ice panel, place the valve selector knob to the L position. Turn the three anti-ice switches to Open. The three green lights should momentarily extinguish then come back on. Turn the valve selector knob to Cowl and R, and make sure that the green lights remain illuminated. Monitor N1, maintaining at least 55% N1.</b></font></p> <p><font size="2" face="Verdana"><i><img border="0" src="images/727_icon.gif" width="100" height="48">You will not see any of the expected changes in the engine gauges with anti-ice on.</i></font></p> <p> </p> <p><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>DUCT TEMP GAUGE AND SELECTOR</b></font></p> <p><img border="0" src="images/duct_temp.jpg" width="200" height="117"></p> <p><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>Shows the temperature for the engine duct selected by the switch. </b></font></p> <p> </p> <p><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>PITOT HEAT</b></font></p> <p><img border="0" src="images/pitot.jpg" width="150" height="119"></p> <p><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>Pitot heat is turned on with the two toggle switches. The left switch turns on heat for the left pitot, left static port, temperature probe, and left elevator feel system. The right switch turns on heat for the right pitot, right static ports, aux pitot, and right elevator feel system probe. Failure of any heater will cause the amber light between the two switches to illuminate.</b></font></p> <p><font face="Verdana" size="2"><b>Above each switch is an ammeter showing current draw for each unit. Units are selected with the knob in the upper middle. The knob is spring loaded to "P".</b></font></p> <p> </p> <p> </p> <!--msnavigation--></td></tr><!--msnavigation--></table></body> </html>
