NOTE:  Older addon liveries downloaded elsewhere will not have properly textured nose gear doors, vertical tail, props, and spinners.  Use model=old (square tipped props) or model=oldf27 (round tip props) for these older liveries.  Read the Adding Liveries.txt file for a detailed description.  All CalClassic liveries have been updated to version 6 or later.

Now features wing views.  Use the following keys on the numeric keypad, with NumLock ON:

1.  Left Rear and Right Rear views (1 and 3 keys) will show the engines and wings
2.  Ctrl-Shift-1 and Ctrl-Shift 3 keys will show main landing gear view
3.  Ctrl-Shift-7 and Ctrl-Shift 9 keys will show wing views
4.  The Rear view (2 key) will show the engine nacelles

Note that this will work only with my panel.cfg file.  If you use another panel you would need to copy the proper sections from the VIEWS section to get the wing views in that panel.

VERSION 3 FEATURES

Now features a new model file that has been modified with correct F-27A details, including pitot tubes on the nose, rectractable landing lights, and airstairs built into a drop down passenger door.  It also features improved nacelle shape, fuselage shape, and main gear retraction seqence.  Thanks to Mike Stone for giving me permission to modify his F.27-200 for this conversion!  Thanks to Jaap de Baare for the rear fuselage air scoops, some nose gear parts, and helpful suggestions.  NOTE:  This model has no VC, nor changes other than those listed above.

There is an alternate model for the F-27 with round tip prop blades (as compared to the F-27A with square tipped blades).  If your livery is for an F-27 with round tip prop blades, in the aircraft.cfg file in that livery section change:

to:

The West Coast and Air West Pink/Orange liveries on the CalClassic page should have round tip prop blades.  Thanks to Jaap de Baare for the new prop blades.


VERSION 2 FEATURES

Features a new panel with:

Manual fuel trimming (Temp Trim) can be activated by clicking the left side of the fuel trimmer gauge.
The fuel datum chart is available by clicking the right side of the gauge.
WARNING!  Auto fuel trimming (the default) will result in the most accurate flight model.
Using the chart can result in TGT values up to 1% in error.  There is a copy of the chart
in the FS2004/Aircraft/F-27A folder if you would like to print a copy.

When starting the engines, the tool tip of the start buttons will tell you if anything is required
before they will start.

Prop Brake buttons can be pressed once the RPM slows below 3000 RPM, and will increase the rate
the props slow to a stop.  The buttons will pop back out when the props have stopped.

The plane currently uses the King Air sounds by default.

Installation

NOTE:  This package now uses a single folder in the Aircraft folder, and all liveries are added
to this single folder.

WARNING:  This plane requires a recent version of FSUIPC to be installed (>v3.30 for FS9, FSX has 
its own versions).  FS may CRASH if not installed.  Get the FS2004 version at:  
http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html

Quit FS if it is running before installation.

1.  If you find an F-27A folder or F27A PAL folder in your Aircraft folder (SimObjects/Airplanes in FSX), move it out.  
    Create a Removed folder and *move* it into that.  Move all other CalClassic F-27's too.

2.  Unzip this F-27.zip file archive by double clicking it.  You will find this  
    text file and Setup.exe.

3.  Double click the Setup.exe file to start the installation.  Press the Run button 
    at the warning screen.  If it doesn't find your main FS2004/FSX folder automatically
    or you are instaling into FSX, press the ... button and browse to it.  

4.  If installing into FSX, refer to the FSX Conversion folder in the panel's f27pnlml folder.  

5.  If you intend to install all liveries available at CalClassic, use the aircraft.cfg
    file available in the All CC Liveries folder (in the Aircraft/F-27A folder).  

6.  If you are adding the Bonanza or Pacific 1965 liveries (stored elsewhere on the web), 
    follow the procedure detailed in the Adding Liveries.txt file in the Aircraft/F27A folder.

7.  Note that any livery created for the Mike Stone F.27-200 will work with this package 
    (using the old version 5 models), BUT YOU WILL NEED TO REPLACE THE PROPDISK TEXTURE.  
    Add any extra liveries using the details in the Adding Liveries.txt file in the 
    Aircraft/F-27A folder.

8.  If you have a square monitor or use FS reduced to a square shape, read the text file 
    in the Square Monitors folder (inside the f27pnlml folder).  

Note:  the default panel is for widescreen monitors with a display ratio of 0.5625 
(i.e. 1920 x 1080 - 1080 / 1920 = .5625).  If your monitor has a different display ratio, 
you need to edit the panel.cfg file to give you the correct zoom:

1.  Divide your display height by the width.  For example, if you use a 1600 x 1000 display ratio, 
then 1000 / 1600 is 0.625.

2.  Now divide this number by 0.75, the display ratio of a standard "square" screen.  
In our example, 0.625 / 0.75 = 0.83.

3.  Adjust this number to the nearest 0.5 value.  This is your new desired Zoom value.  
In our example, 0.83 becomes 0.85.  

4.  Edit the Views section of the panel.cfg file found in the f27pnlml folder to change the 
0.75 zoom values to your new zoom value (0.85 in our example).

5.  After loading the plane, in VC View change the zoom to your new value and save a Flight.


After installation of all the files, start FS2004/FSX and the plane will appear in the 
Select Aircraft menu.  

How to fly the F-27 by FSAviator and Tom Gibson

The Flight Model Hints file has a great discussion of how to fly the F-27.  Use the 
Reference section of the Kneeboard (F10) for detailed information on power settings, 
flight details, and fuel planning.

The first major civil aircraft designed and built by Fokker 
after WW II was the F27.  During 1950, Fokker determined what 
operators would like for a DC-3 replacement, and they developed 
the P.275 concept, with a shoulder-height wing, powered by a 
pair of turboprops.  By 1953, this had developed into the F27 
with Rolls-Royce Dart engines, seating 32 passengers in a 
pressurized cabin and capable of operating from small 
airfields.  The Dutch government was so confident that Fokker 
had a winner that they funded the production of two flying and 
two test aircraft.  The prototype flew on November 24, 1955, 
and the project soon began to yield orders.  Fairchild Aircraft 
also saw the planes potential, and secured a license-production 
agreement for airlines in the United States.  The Fairchild 
machines had a longer nose for weather radar, extra fuel 
tankage, American instrumentation, and seating for up to 40.  
This version received its FAA Type Approval on July 16, 1958.  
The F27/F-27 went on to become the best selling turboprop 
aircraft, with over 700 built.  The intial type was followed by 
the F27 Mk 200/F-27A, with uprated engines, and then the 
Mk300/F-27B with freighter features.  The first major change 
was made in the F27 Mk 500, which had a fuselage stretch of 
almost 5 feet, while Fairchild developed the FH-227, which 
instead stretched the fuselage by 6 feet.  F-27's were very 
popular with the smaller regional and local airlines as DC-3 
and Convair/Martin replacements.  They were very reliable, and 
many passengers enjoyed the fine views from the large windows 
unimpeded by the wing.  Many F-27's are still in service today, 
and manufacture of this popular plane was extended by the 
development of the Fokker 50, with new engines and avionics.  
However, the closure of the Fokker company seems to have 
finally ended the story of this fine aircraft, although those 
examples flying today give good evidence of this fine 
aircraft's longevity.
